The Coffee Tree Books & Brew opened in late 2004 featuring the finest grades of specialty coffees, a large selection of used hardback and paperback books in all genres and unusual gifts. It was our intention to have a shop that was more than just a coffee shop and bookstore. The goal was to create a friendly, relaxed atmosphere in which customers and groups could meet, eat, drink, browse, relax and shop for books and gift items not found elsewhere.
We’re Cheers without the drunks, your family room away from home. We’re a specialty coffee shop and used bookstore with a bit more. We’re the place you go for a bite to eat, to find a book at a great price, meet friends for bridge, chess, mah jong, live music, 3 nights a week or a special treat like our fresh biscuits and gravy on Friday mornings or beignets on Saturday mornings. A number of clubs and groups meet here regularly. Check our calendar of events for more information at [Event Calendar] page. Call Kitty to schedule a time for your next get together.
In our store you will find thirty to forty thousand used books, both hardback and paperback in nearly all genres. There are recent issues as well as rare and collectible books, first editions and autographed volumes. We BUY * SELL * TRADE, paperback books are sold for 50% of publisher price, hardback books are typically much less than 50% of publisher price. Go to [Trade Policy] page to determine how book trading is done.
Select new books by local authors are another specialty, as are gift items, custom designed gift baskets and music CDs by local musicians. Take a look at [Local Authors] page for a list of local Authors and there books.
You'll find coffee makers, espresso machines, grinders, frothers and more from top names like Jura-Capresso and Bunn. In addition, we’re here to provide you with accessories, replacement parts and the indispensable ingredient that makes them work and the other stores don't have coffee beans.
Speaking of coffee! We sell the top grades of teas and coffee beans for you to enjoy at home. The best cup of coffee comes from the best quality beans, carefully roasted to a precise degree of doneness, ground and brewed fresh in spotlessly clean equipment using properly filtered and softened water.
The beans we sell and brew are top quality beans. They are custom roasted for us in very small batches to ensure freshness both when we get them and when we sell them. Our roasters are half mad scientist, half artist. With years of experience and meticulous record keeping, they have identified the precise conditions of temperature and time adjusted for ambient temperature, humidity and barometric pressure to achieve the optimum roast for each bean.
Once roasted, our beans are immediately shipped to us, often overnight. There is no laying around in a warehouse, no shipping to a distributor who then breaks down a bag and re-ships. Its just from the roaster direct to our shelves. Go to [Coffee Beans] page for a list of our more popular coffees. Others are available on special request.
We back up the quality of beans and roasting by using the very best equipment, maintaining it in top condition and brewing carefully so that you get a consistent cup that our customers swear is the best coffee in town.

Three nights a week you can come enjoy live music in a smoke and alcohol free environment. Every Wednesday night at 7:00 PM Ken Dupree hosts The Songwriters Open Mic where area songwriters come to perform their original music. You’ll hear from talents like Jim Parker, Lori Lovelace, Donny & Susan Grace, Karen Newsum and many others. The Coffee Tree Friday Music Showcase features a performer or group in a two hour show every Friday night. On Fridays you’ll hear popular area musicians like Larry Woelhart with pop and folk from the 60s and 70s, The Mohr 4 Celtic Fiddlers, the delightful sounds of Barry Kay or the country, the eclectic mix of songs from AC Junction and original works of Dustin Potter. The last Friday of each month Dr. James Smith, The Autoharp Man hosts the Traditional Music Association for a real old time Mountain Music Happinin’. It’s a night filled with old time favorites like Old Joe Clark and ballads brought over from the British Isles that evolved through the years into the music of the mountains. Autoharps, dulcimers, fiddles and banjos along with story telling, spoon playing and clogging go together with a bit of history behind the songs. Combined with plenty of hand clappin’ and foot stompin’ and some down home vittles like a beans and cornbread for a dinner special make for an evening that is fun for all ages. All Showcase performers are real crowd pleasers so make Friday nights at the Coffee Tree a frequent event on your calendar.
Saturday Open Mic Night is hosted by the Flint River Gypsies, Robert Galloway, Jimmy Long and Becky Redding. Their long playlist of pop, soft rock and country and original songs is always a hit. In addition to the hosts you never know just who you’ll hear. Open Mic night is open to all musicians playing all genres of music. They play their own songs as well as popular favorites. Its an eclectic mix with the only rule being that all must be socially acceptable and appropriate for all ages.
Many of our performers are available for bookings at private parties, meetings and events. Check out the [Musicians] page for information and links to their contact information.
